Adora Obi Nweze, President of NAACP Florida State Conference and Torey Alston, State Economic Development Chair, will release a statewide Economic Development Report Card after examining the records of leading public and private organizations over the last four months.
The NAACP Florida State Conference examined their records on employment, advertising and spending with minority, women and veteran-owned businesses. This inaugural statewide economic development report card will examine the following organizations:
Private Corporations: AutoNation, Disney, Ryder, Seminole Hard Rock Casinos.
School Districts: Bay County School District, Broward County School District, Collier County School District, Escambia County School District, Orange County School District, Pinellas County School District, Polk County School District, St. Johns County School District.
Cities/Municipalities: Fort Myers, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lake City, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Tampa.
County Government:Brevard County, Broward County, Gadsden County, Leon County, Marion County, Martin County, Monroe County, Palm Beach County, Volusia County.
Here is the grading scale and methodology used for the report card: A – Excellent (37% and higher). B – Above Average (31% to 36%). C – Average (25% to 30%). D – Below Average (24% to 29%). F – Failing (23% and below). *F – Did Not Respond.
The NAACP Florida State Conference considered the 2010 Census Results as a baseline. 75% of the state population is white alone and all others fall into other minority groups. These groups are Black/African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, 2 or more races and some other race alone.
