~The NAACP Florida State Conference plans to release a statewide Economic Development Report Card examining the records of public and private organizations. ~

MIAMI— Adora Obi Nweze, President of NAACP Florida State Conference and Torey Alston, State Economic Development Chair have launched the Diversity Matters Initiative, an annual campaign focused on examining the records of leading public and private organizations.

“I am excited to re-launch this initiative as we continue exploring the records of local government and corporations in Florida,” says Adora Obi Nweze, who also serves as a member of the National Board of the NAACP. “Economic Sustainability is one of our national Game Changers and we want to inform Floridians of real impacts to their communities.”

The Diversity Matters Initiative will examine the records of targeted cities, counties, school districts and public and private corporations in Florida. The NAACP Florida State Conference will examine their records on employment, advertising and spending with minority, women and veteran-owned businesses. The NAACP Florida State Conference will release a consumer guide and report card at the conclusion of this process.

“Diversity and inclusion are real measures of policy and actual practices,” says Torey Alston, who will lead this statewide effort on diversity and also serves as State Chair of Economic Development. “We look forward to working with these organizations, conducting a thorough review and highlighting best practices and areas for improvement.”
